🎉 Excitement is in the air! Autism Ontario will be hosting a job fair at the Job Skills Brampton office and is looking to hire 20+ Camp Counselors for the Summer Season. Please see the details below:

Job Fair Time: 10am – 2pm
Job Title: 1:1 or 1:2 Counsellor – Summer Camp Programs

Job Location: Richmond Hill, Ontario (Trillium Woods Public School, 18 Alamo Heights Dr, Richmond Hill)
Job Type: Seasonal  (7 week Summer Contract)

Job Description:

Autism Ontario x Variety Village is seeking compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic individuals to serve as 1:1 Counsellors in our Summer Camp Programs. This role involves working directly with campers on the autism spectrum who require individualized support to participate in camp activities safely and meaningfully. The ideal candidate will be passionate about inclusion, have experience working with children, youth or adults with disabilities, and be committed to creating a fun, safe, and respectful environment for all campers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, individualized support to assigned camper(s) throughout the camp day
  • Assist with participation in activities such as arts and crafts, games, outdoor play, sensory activities, and field trips
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment at all times
  • Monitor and assist with personal care needs, as required
  • Collaborate with other camp staff and supervisors to ensure a successful camp experience for all participants
  • Communicate daily with support staff and provide progress updates as needed
  • Attend mandatory staff training sessions prior to the start of camp
  • MANDATORY: First Aid Certification*Special consideration: If you have previous experience with managing behaviors

    • Dress professionally, typically business casual unless the event specifies otherwise.
    • Choose something comfortable but polished.

During the Job Fair:

  1. Network Confidently:
    • Approach recruiters with a smile and firm handshake (if appropriate).
    • Make eye contact and use their name when speaking.
  2. Ask Thoughtful Questions:
    • Go beyond the basics to show genuine interest (e.g., “What qualities make someone successful in this role?”).
    • Avoid asking about salary or benefits in the first interaction.
  3. Take Notes:
    • Jot down key points about companies you connect with to personalize your follow-up later.
  4. Gather Contact Information:
    • Collect business cards or make notes on who you spoke to for follow-up purposes.
